Ultimate Mortal Kombat combines the visceral thrills of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and the addictive puzzle action of the Puzzle Kombat component of Mortal Kombat Deception in a single DS-friendly package. With new record-keeping capability, and multiplayer Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, players will be able take UMK anywhere for fighting action on the go.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat is the first MK game for the Nintendo DS and it's a faithful recreation of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection allows players from around the world to fight against each other thanks to the Internet! To make things even more interesting, you can challenge a friend to a fight even if he doesn't own the Ultimate Mortal Kombat game! This feature is rarely ever done by manufacturers since why would they allow your friend to play the game if he doesn't own it. They'd rather have you purchase it if you really want to play it. So thumbs up for Midway on this one.
So you can choose from over 20 playable Mortal Kombat characters and more than 15 arenas. And, of course, there are tons of unlockable features like gifts, stories and characters.
Another great feature of this game for the DS is that one of the screens has a moves list and a list of the fatalities, babalities, animalities and friendships. This is great for new MK gamers and for those who want to have their memories refreshed. It also gets pretty handy when you want to execute a quick fatality.
You can also test yourself and others on Puzzle Kombat, the addictive MK-style puzzle game. The first time I played this puzzle game, which reminds me of Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, was in Mortal Kombat Deception. In this DS version, one screen shows the MK characters fighting, while the other shows the puzzle game. As you win the puzzle game, the character wins the fight as well and performs an automatic fatality.
