Mikael Blomkvist, a financial journalist for
Millennium magazine, has been convicted on counts
of slander. He decides to take a break from his
job when he is hired by Henrik Vanger, part of one
of the wealthiest families in Sweden, to solve a
cold case: the disappearance, some forty years
previously, of his 16-year-old niece, Hariett.
Blomkvist will soon realize that the Vanger family
is filled with sinister secrets. He gets help from
Lisbeth Salander, a troubled 24-year-old woman who
has the ability to find inaccessible information.
The incongruous pair will start to dig dark and
dangerous family secrets and uncover much more
