In 1977, in a Northern England town, eighteen
year old Vince Smith works as a lowly clerk in a
legal firm. He is painfully shy and can't bring
himself to stand up to his overbearing boss or to
ask out his beautiful co-worker Joanna. Vince's
father, Harold is a retired clerk who likes the
quiet life, while his wife prefers a more rigorous
nightlife, especially in the company of well-built
young men. Vince is oblivious to it all as his
attentions are firmly focused on disco and
emulating the moves of his hero John Travolta. One
Christmas Day, Harold performs a party trick that
astonishes the entire family. Vince has life
turned upside down when his father's unlikely
knack for performing mysterious tricks catapults
the Smith family into the limelight and he meets
an exotic punk girl.
